Has anyone used the Harrison expansion tank in their builds? If so, how did you mount it? Pics?

Thanks

Bill,
Here is another way to do it. We made a custom bracket to hold the remote oil filter and the tank. In front of the engine is the only place with lots of room (relatively speaking).

Thanks Bill. Now I know what I have to do.

Did you make it from plate aluminum? Where did you get the straps?

Bill,
The bracket was made from 1/2" aluminum tooling plate and cut to match up with the remote oil filter bracket. The big holes were added to make it lighter, plus I thought it made it look cool! The clamp around the 1" x 2" tubular cross member was milled from 6061 aluminum bar stock that was laying around the shop. We put 1/16" rubber around the clamp where it contacts the cross member tube. The straps holding the tank come with a bracket that you cannot see behind the tank. I'll have to check with Brian tonight, but as I remember, Corvettes that were racing during the same period as the Cobras also used the Harrison tank and came up bracket and straps. I'll find out where we got them as they make everything very easy to mount. More later.....

Bill,
I spoke to Brian and found out where we purchased the straps to mount the Harrison tank. We bought ours from "Corvette Central", but Brian said that any place selling vintage Corvette parts has them as they also used Harrison tanks in the mid-60s. They will make you mounting go very easy.

Here's another question:

How did the original Cobras mount the Harrison expansion tank?

Bill,

Several original pics I've seen show the Harrison tank mounted on top of the original cars' center leaf spring clamp tower. This was done using the earlier (61 - 62) Vette mounting bracket; it actually forms a small cradle/pedestal that the tank sits on top of. This bracket is very expensive - like $150 when I priced it - compared to the side-hanging 63 - 72 bracket at ~$10.

I mounted my tank a bit differently, coming off the unused accessory holes on the front of the driver's side head to position it a bit more like the street car tank. (Now, you want to talk about something pretty rare - and pricey if you can find one - try looking for a 289 street expansion tank.)

You can see my setup in this thread:

I like what you did Zach. All the examples thus far are excellent.

Thanks
