This won't interest any of you American owners unless you want to sell your car to a Canadian but I bought my car last winter from a guy in Tenn. and had no trouble at all importing it since the Tenn. title stated the car is a 1990 and the Unique tag clearly shows a manufacture date of July 89. Once they checked that I just had to pay the 5% sales tax. They did say that they often have people arrive at the border with newer cars or cars that they can't prove the age of and these can't be imported. The rules on bringing in kit-cars of any type seem to pretty much block them, though it seems that if they are in small enough parts you are ok though the problem might come when you try to register it as a car, I don't know.

However the rule I came in on is the fact that the car is over 15 years old and thus doesn't have to meet any of the standards of Transport Canada for new cars. There is some discussion about closing off this "loophole" but for now it works for older cars.
