View Full Version : Tire rub when cornering

While my back wheels were removed for balancing, I noticed an alarmingly large place on the inside of the rear passenger fender well where the wheel has rubbed and worn away fiberglass. I think it rubs when I'm cornering (left turn). The driver's side is far less significant. If I were to install the rear anti sway bar, would this effect likely be eliminated?

I have seen this before on Unique Cars.

Can be caused by several things or a combination of them.

1. The fiberglass is very thick where the panels are glasses together.

2. Alignment, toe in on the rear wheels is off, and possible not symetric with the frame.

3. Ride hight is too low, and or springs are too weak, so under hard cornering it can rub.

4. And yes, a sway bar will help.

I did the Tail of the Dragon today and I could hear it rub when I did a hard corner to the left. I guess that going from the 275/50/16s to 295/50/16s did me in. I recently had the suspension tuned, do I'm not anxious to screw around with the suspension settings. I also just had Gran Turismo do a precision balance job. I'm thinking that maybe I should get the rear sway bar and ask Gran Turismo to install it and rebalance the back wheels if needed. Is the Unique rear bar a "one size fits all"? And does it trash the ride?

Tony,
I have the rear 3/4" sway bar and it does not effect the straight down the road ride. I am running 295/50-15s and they do not rub.
I am also running Trigos and my tires are 26.5" tall.

I would do the sway bar and rear tire balance. Call the Weaver's.
