Thought I would start this thread and get a list of people attending this year. Phil and other west coasters you had no representation last year and I ate your portion of cat fish. To everyone else that has not been to an open house it is a blast and the Margiheetas are good .:D

I think we made a mistake on the letter we sent out, the Hampton Inns phone # is 256-546-2337 and the # for Motel 6 is 256-543-1105. We reversed them in the letter so make sure you call the hotel you want. Scott is your date coming again this year?

Rick - Mom & Dad will certainly be there for the Thursday night festivities.

There's some changes going on at Sandy's school, so there's a possibility she may be in a meeting/conference late that Thursday, and there's a chance I will be in class that evening, so... Right now, we're thinking we may have to skip Thursday night catfish and just stay for Saturday night margaritas. Oh, the humanity! ;)

C'mon Paul, go ahead and come to Homecoming. Speaking from experience, I can promise you the guys working on your cottage/house can make just as many screw-ups whether you're there or not! Ohhhh, the joy of building...

You know how people say, "If your marriage can survive building a house, it can survive anything"? My retort to that is that Sandy & I didn't disagree on anything as far as paint, flooring, etc. - there were a couple of times we thought we'd both get sent to prison for killing a contractor with our bare hands, though! :)

And our house building experience has a "UNIQUE" twist. Mother's Day weekend, 2002 - also Unique Homecoming weekend. Mom & Dad's very first Homecoming with their car. Sandy & I are 2 weeks from moving into our new house, waiting on the hardwood floors to cure. Late Friday afternoon, the water heater in the house we're renting bursts, flooding the house ~6" deep. Mom & Dad have to leave Homecoming, and we literally spend all night Friday night getting our belongings out of the flooded rental and packing them in my parents' basement around the Cobra. Then, we camp out in their living room floor for 2 weeks... So much for the detailed, relaxed moving plans we had made.

Anyhow, really do hope you get to come to Homecoming, and hang in there with the rebuilding.

It looks like both Kit Car and Kit Car Builder will be at this years open house so we need a big turn out. I'm thinking of this years cruise taking us by the Talladega Speedway for tour of the museum and maybe a photo shoot inside the track, it will be a longer trip than in the past and we can still eat at Fibers. Please don't wait till the last minute to send in your entry form, it makes it hard on my mom to plan everything.

According to Map Quest, it is 58 miles from UNIQUE to the Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, AL.....taking the backway (411). That is how I come to UNIQUE anytime I'm in the Cobra.

You could leave the falls, stop for a BIG Breakfast somewhere(?), drive to Barbers, tour the museum ($10/person) and then take 411 back to Gadsden for some rest time and early Mexican dinner. I could let the museum know we were coming as a group and maybe even get a reduced entry fee. I'm not sure I could talk George into any track time or not. That same weekend is rented for Sportbike Track Time and anyone who has never seen a superbike running 180 mph around a closed circuit is in for a treat.

Just thinking outside the Box!

Alan, I'll be sending in my ap as soon as Dr. Parham gives me a diagnosis. Hopefully it's not too serious. It looks like I'll be tossing the BG Mighty Demon for an HP Holley. Also, I would like to get in Maurice's queue for a new set of headers. I'm wanting to upgrade to 1 3/4 tubes with the flanges cut to a modified felpro gasket that matches my ported heads. I figure I'll be able to sell my current headers as they are in great shape, save for a new coating job.

Hi Brent. All of a sudden, she developed a bad vibration that seems to be coming from the engine. I replaced the harmonic damper first. Then a local shop tightened all the hardware bumper to bumper, removed and checked the motor mounts etc. I'm guessing it's something in the bellhousing. Southern has it and will be tearing into it soon. It's very sad seeing an empty spot in my garage.

Hopefully it is just an easy clutch disc or pressure plate issue. Hope for the best. This stuff always happens when the weather gets nice.

If you are tossing the Mighty Demon, what size it and how bad do you hate it?

Justin

Tony Radford
March 28th, 2007, 03:04 AM
Justin, It's a 750 with mechanical secondaries. I was considering sending up to a specialist to be fine-tuned. After talking to the guy (ex-BG employee), I think it woud be cheaper just to have an HP Holley installed. He said he was working almost exclusively on Holleys as they tend to make better HP than a comparable Demon. My Demon has always run a bit rich and according to the Dyno, the jets are OK.

JeepSnake
March 28th, 2007, 05:32 AM
Tony, it's been a while since I've talked to Rodney (aka TAGCAVE), but he was having Demon troubles as well. I think he was on his second or third Demon by fall of last year without success.

TAGCAVE
March 28th, 2007, 06:05 AM
Tony, My Mighty Demon ran reallllllly rich out of the box, jetted it down still ran rich, sent it back to BG came back with same jets as when it was new, installed it, runs much better but still rich. I am still not pleased with the perfomance, I am thinking of making the switch to a Holley myself, keep me posted on the results.

I ran into an acquaintance today (owns another brand of car), who was thinking about making the trip to Gadsden for Homecoming. He knows Gary Darcy here in town as well. I was telling him how great it was last year and all, and he asked if it was OK to show up with brand X at the Homecoming. I said, "  ." I told him I did not think it would be too big a deal, but that I would post the question here for comments.

He mentioned he was considering another car project. What do you think it might end up being if he shows up in Gadsden ;) !

We've had several people over the years hear about our event and call about bringing another brand, when they find out is a Unique only show most have no problem with it but some really show their a$$. We do allow Tony Lewis to drive his SP on Sat cruise but he sends more potential customers to us than you would believe, he bought his car before knowing about us. Several years ago someone with a West Coast Cobra showed up and parked his car out front of the shop, we didn't notice his car untill he pulled out to leave so he got away with it, we pay more attention to whos car is here now. We do welcome anyone who wants to attend just don't bring another brand Cobra.

I was driving my Unique this past week end and happened across a Mopar only show . I pulled in only to look at the cars in the show and the Cobra ended up stealing the show . I was not invited to leave and some one did tell me , I was welcome anytime but unless I had a Mopar to show please drive the family sedan next time I came to their show .

I knew these cars drew attention but had no idea how many new people I would meet by just getting out and driving around .

I'm glad the good weather held out!!! I've been watching the "Weather Channel" and hoping it would for everyone down there!!

Man I sure missed not being down there with you guys!!

I need to be strapped into a race car as a passenger and taken for 180 MPH cruise with a pro driver!

Everyone have a great time and get home safe.

Please post some pictures for the rest of us.

Ya, it was FUNtastic:D!

Phil, I have ridden with your old friend Pat these last two years... he's a very gracious person. He mentioned that you rode with him his (and your) first year. Rod and I were talking about y'all making the Homecoming trip one year as a "California Contingent"... you need to work with him on making that happen;)!

Jeff, plan to attend next year... you won't regret it:D:D! Hope your build is going well. We'll be up your way before too long. I'll be in touch when we are getting closer to liftoff.

i wouldnt say that . i was going just as fast as mike was with a pro driver. its a no restrictor plate motor thats speed controlled by the rev limiter chip in the same msd 6 al box that lots of us run. as long as you dont go up on the chip youre running as fast as the pros doing the ride alongs. it was so easy to drive, after the first lap, as soon as i set the car into the turn, i was driving one handed and talking to the instructor with hand signals.(we kinda made up a couple extra signals as we went along). and i didnt even do the van ride around the track to be shown the groove.by the time 2 laps were done, the instructor was letting me get down on the bottom in the turns, and i mean right on the line. and all the way to the wall coming out of the turns (less than a foot)( youre not supposed get any closer than 3 ft) and i have an in car video to prove it. if youve ever driven a car set up for an oval track of any size, so you have a little feel for how a cup car drives, it an easy drive. the hardest part was keeping it just under the rev limiter chip. the wildest part is in the turns, with that much banking i could only see up the track about 75 feet , if that.( i think i was in a car set up for a short person) i will say it was intense. the best part is youre encouraged by the instructors to go fast , pass cars, and draft. everybody should do it. after i got done i think mike was regretting doing the ride along and not driving. although he did have a good ride, the instructors were mixing it up pretty good on his ride. later, brian
