Got my stuff back from the powder coater. Looks good and I am very pleased. Powder coater is a old Ford guy and does a lot of car stuff.
He was very impressed with the quality of the sidepipes. He thinks they are going to be load.:D No restriction in the pipes[}:)]
Reverse gear from Phil came. THANKS PHIL!I will gladly pay you Tuesday for my part today.:DCheck is in the mail.
Do I need to shorten the shaft going into the speedo?
Here are a couple of pics.

This guy uses a high temp powder for sidepipes. A local ERA Cobra owner uses him and has a set of headers and sidepipe done by this guy two years ago and pipes still look good. Caught out in the rain a couple of times too, no problems.

Looking good Tony. Keep taking those pictures. I got a book full and they are great to go through with folks interested in the build, and you will be surprised at the people who want to see how it was done.

Tony,

L:):)king G[^][^]D

I can confirm what the powder coat said regarding your pipes being loud. When I'm with a group of Cobra's, mine is without a doubt the loudest [:P]

As for shortening the shaft for the reverser - I had to shorten mine because it would bind up when everything was connected and tightened up. If you use it as-is you will know pretty quickly if its too long. Best thing to do is turn the cable at the transmission to see if everything is moving freely. This will prevent you from snapping the cable, or worse yet, tearing up the nylon gear that inserts into the tranny.

Phil,
I asked about that because I had read your troubles in the research on speedometers and that how I tested mine to see if I needed the reverse gear.I will put it together and check to see if it binds up.

[}:)]I like it loud[}:)]

Can't wait[:P]

Thanks Tony

Installed my factory fuel filter I bought on Ebay and wrapped my sidepipes. I am working on wrapping my brake and clutch lines.

Tony,

Why would you need to bandage your side pipes ;)[?]

Two reasons,
I am not going to take the chance of me, my wife and children burning there legs from a momentary laps of thinking and also it goes with the look I'm going for.

Tony, you may want to ask Alan about wrapping the pipes. I at one time in a fit of temperature control told Alan what I was planning on doing (wrapping the headers) and was told not to do it as it would cause my pipes to rust out from the inside out. Now the sidepipes may not be subject to the same type of problems if wrapped, but to be on the safe side you may want to get some input from Unique.

Header wrap will cause your pipes to rust in no time, almost every set of pipes we have replaced over the years were due to header wrap. If you do decide to leave it on I will say, I told you so.

The consensus has been heat shields belong on Corvettes and Honda 90's ;)

Tony - In the for-what-it's-worth category... the snake bites that have occurred with my car have all been on the last few inches of the side pipes..... that aren't wrapped in your photo (you will see what I mean when you get the body back on).

I have done some research and I know the life of the side pipes will be shortened.
I saw how people run up to these cars and the panic on the the drivers face and the warning going out of "VERY HOT PIPES!"
I speak very softly and don't know if my warning would be heard.
In my youth I would just call them an idiot and say didn't you know the pipes were hot I just drove up, But I am older and more concerned about others I decided to wrap the pipes.
I know people with Vettes and side pipes with the perforated covers and they still burn the crap out of themselves.
Muarice says they just change the burn from one big spot to a grate pattern.

Alan, I guess you will get a sidepipe order from me sooner than later.:D
Thanks Tony

It is your car.

Build it how you want the way you want.

Every day, every time, without fail, no exceptions!!

No regrets!

Agreed.....

It's funny, but one of those "careful, hot pipes people" was me, when I went over to Tony's on the 4th of July weekend. His lovely wife, two boys, and friends came running out as I drove up, and the last thing I wanted to see was one of them burned.

But, as I've said previously, Tony has thought this car out, and how he wants to use it very thoroughly. I kinda like the rugged look the wrap provides.

I also like the look of the wrapped pipes.
And with a totally black car it will blend in great, albeit
the fact that it will provide the protection we all need
form time to time.....and especially those kids when
they coming running up to see 'the race car'

Phil,
I tried this when I got it home with the body on. Seat was mounted in car for display at Carlisle.
I am 5' 10" and can set my foot out of the car with with my butt in the seat. My leg is about 2" from the pipe in the area where the muffler and the tailpipe(for lack of a better word) come together.
You look pretty tall to me so we might be stepping out in a different place. I would have to really swing my leg back quit a ways to touch the un-wrapped part of the pipe.
I wonder if it is excessive condensation trapped in the muffler from The higher Temperature that causes the pipe to rust out sooner.
I do like the rugged look of the wrap. I hope I pull off the Image of the Cobra I have in my head. If I do I will be a very happy Cobra owner.
Clay.....:D I try not to be a name thrower.:D
